Tuition at public colleges has increased 18% in just 5 years! Cuts to higher education at four-year and community colleges threaten access to affordable college for thousands of young Texans.

Dear Texas Lawmaker,
To keep Texas’ economy growing, we must make it easier for more young Texans to get the higher education they need to improve their chances of finding work and earning decent wages.
Since the Great Recession, Texas has cut higher education funding per student by 15 percent. Tuition at Texas’ four-year public universities rose by 18 percent during the same time. We need to provide students and families more support to limit the amount of debt college graduates in Texas must carry.
With roughly eight in 10 Bachelor's degree holders in Texas interacting with the community college system, the role these schools play in educating and training Texas’ workforce is substantial. To support our students, lawmakers should reject the Texas House and Senate’s 4.5 percent cut to community college funding.
I urge you to fully restore higher education funding per student to pre-Recession levels and reject proposals that threaten education funding so that more young Texans can improve their chances of attending college and finding a job.
